
The Study of Older Workers' Leisure Time and Employment Options

The Leisure Time and Employment Options Study is examining the fit the characteristics of older workers' employment situations (such as access to flexible work options) and their use of leisure time. Older workers' involvement in a range of activities, such as engaging in paid work, reading, listening to music, sleeping, exercising, visiting others, praying, and household maintenance tasks are being documented.
Key Research Questions:
How do employed older workers spend their leisure time?
How does the time use of older workers compare to other adults who are not working?
How do job characteristics affect the relationship between paid work time and time spent on other activities?
Study Status:
Data analysis will be completed in Summer 2007.
Selected Findings:
Preliminary findings will be available beginning in Summer 2007.
Publications:
The Summary Report of the Leisure Time and Employment Options Study will be available in Fall 2007. An Issue Brief on the time use of older workers is scheduled for publication Winter 2008.
