According to 2006 U.S. Census Bureau Statistics from the American Community Survey, the unemployment* rate is 3.6% for workers 75 and over, 3.8% for ages 55-74, 4.4% for ages 45-54, 5.6% for ages 25-44, 11.2% for ages 20-24, and 21.7% for ages 16-19. The overall unemployment rate for the U.S. population 16 years and over is 6.4%. *Unemployed persons (1) were neither "at work" nor "with a job but not at work" during the reference week, and (2) were looking for work during the last 4 weeks, and (3) were available to start a job
