According to a 2006 Census Bureau report, while 91 percent of all people did not spend any nights in a hospital as a patient during the the study year (2001-2002), the proportion for people aged 65 and over who were not hospitalized overnight was 81 percent. (Fig. 3, p. 8)

This report uses data from the third wave (2001-2002) of the Survey of Income and Program Participation (SIPP). Respondents are interviewed every 4 months for 36-48 months. 26,800 interviews were obtained from 31,3000 units.
