Joanna N. Lahey received her Ph.D. in economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and her bachelor’s degree with honors in mathematics and economics from Pomona College in Claremont, California. She is currently a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the National Bureau of Economics Research.
Dr. Lahey has an expertise in age discrimination and how age relates to labor market outcomes. She is a member of the faculty at the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A & M University.
As a graduate student, Dr. Lahey was honored with a predoctoral fellowship in the Economics of Aging and Health, National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER); a National Science Foundation doctoral dissertation grant for research and data collection on age discrimination; an MIT Schultz Fund award for research and data collection on age discrimination; and a National Science Foundation graduate research fellowship. Her publications include “Becoming Oldest-Old: Evidence from Historical US Data” and “Predicting Older Age Mortality Trends,” both coauthored with Dora Costa. She also has an NBER working paper entitled, "Age, Women, and Hiring: An Experimental Study.”
